Marketers that use AdWords for their online campaigns should know that Google is planning an update to the platform. Google announced that AdWords campaigns which do not use any type of advanced features will be migrated from “All features” to “Standard” over the next few weeks. According to Prashant Baheti, product manager at AdWords, the change will affect all “Search Network Only” and “Search and Display Networks” campaigns, whereas Legacy campaigns will still display “not recommended” in red next to the Standard option.

In June 2012, Google updated its AdWords campaign setup, aiming to make it simpler, it provided marketers with the option to choose the type of campaign that they found the most suitable for their needs. Those campaigns created before the update were set up as “All features” by default. If these were not changed and still no advanced features are being used, the campaigns will be switched to “Standard” which offers a simpler experience for marketers, Baheti explained in a blog post.

Google noted that the change will not affect ad delivery or the way in which campaigns work. What it actually means is that marketers will no longer see any of the advanced feature options for Location, Bidding and Delivery or any of the other advanced settings. However, if they change their mind later and decide to use advanced options, they can just choose “All features” under “Type” in the settings menu and will see all features displayed for them, Baheti explained.
